ISLAND OF THE GODS
Thalori, a village on the south coast of Crete at eight hundred meters above sea level, overlooking the Sea of Libya. As a guest artist, I was at one with the elements, and with the cosmos.
I was trying to focus on the telluric and meteorological aspect. It’s probably naïve, but I wanted to show how an archaic and grandiose landscape can be inhabited by the “Gods” who gave birth to our civilization.
This is the “Island of the Gods”, these are the first days of the World.
Following the closure in 2021 of Voies Off which had always been my gallery, after the confinements linked to Covid, I felt the need to open my house during the Rencontres de la Photographie. I showed “Island of the Gods”, a project that I had never exhibited in Arles.
It was the very first exhibition in what was not yet a gallery and not yet called “The Frozen Lake”.
